The program is divided into 2 modules – POPAT/PARE, giving participants a chance to familiarize themselves with the obstacle course portion of a fitness test, and a run module, where participants learn proper run technique for general fitness as well as prepare them for a 1.5 mile run standard. Head instructor and former Vancouver Police Officer Tricia Dong addresses biomechanics, posture, form, breathing, and test protocol familiarity, as well as popular police-related topics.

Cilivians are welcome to join in on the pain, if you dare!

Skid Row Walking Tour
A client favourite, what used to be the final bootcamp class has become an essential and invaluable life and career lesson for police hopefuls, and even civilians. Shocking, saddening, yet profoundly eye-opening and inspiring, we take a 2-hour stroll through the most notorious neighbourhood in North America for a first-hand glimpse of what life is like in the Skids – from a local perspective. What you see in sanitized media stories is often quite different than the stark reality of everyday life in Canada’s poorest postal code. Each tour yields different experiences, from honest talks with addicts, long-time residents, outreach workers, to tours of S.R.O.s, emergency shelters, detox, community resources, and more.
Date/ Time: September 2010; TBC
Location: Meet at Starbucks, TinselTown (Abbott/Keefer) Cost: $40. Registration mandatory at police@code5fitness.com
Firefighter Fitness Training
This training program is designed for firefighter pre-recruits needing training for Fit-Tech, CPAT, Combat Challenge, and other municipal fire agency fitness tests as required for job duty. Sessions consist of equipment familiarization/simulation and practice stations, with hands-on training for drill and exercise technique. We cover standards of protocol for various departments and/or testing agencies, as well as strength, speed, and cardio conditioning for 1.5 mile run requirements.

No Rules. No Belts. No nonsense. Instructor Serguei Botchev returns to imbibe participants with practical knowledge, confidence, and skills to hold their own in the event of a potentially violent confrontation, whilst increasing flexibility and fluidity. Systema is an effective workout regime and a powerful way of defending oneself in virtually any situation, quickly and easily. Every posture has both a strengthening and stretching aspect to it – tone, firm, and reshape your body while improving flexibility, balance, posture and coordination with an emphasis on core conditioning.
About the instructor: A 28-year veteran of Russian security and self-defence, Serguei‘s credentials speak for themselves –
• Former Lieutenant Colonel and Commander-In-Chief of Russia’s Police Force • Russian Freestyle Fighting Instructor • Former Russian National Wrestling Team Coach • Wrestling & Hand-to-Hand Combat Coach for many elite bodyguards in Russia • Owner of EuroGuard Service (security company) • Developer of the UroFit fitness and self defence system
Code 5 Systema Benefits:
Easy to learn – direct and powerful, yet simple and
straightforward
Teaches students to become quick and decisive
Effective techniques regardless of the body type of
attacker
Learned ability to defeat a much larger or stronger
attacker
Fast learning curve – days or weeks instead of years
Imitates real street situations instead of a studio
environment
Addresses the inevitable “adrenaline dump“, the natural
effect of fear-induced aggression
Contains a minimum number of techniques, making them
easier to recall when fully “adrenalized“
Systema Basics
The Systema workout is best
when the participant is relaxed and aware, so the general focus of each class
is to first erase unnecessary tension in the mind and body. The following are cornerstones in our
training methodology:
Posture
Proper
Breathing
Relaxation
Constant
Motion
In a violent or stressful situation, the individual will
“lose” one or more of these principles, resulting in a greater chance for a bad
outcome. Therefore, all training
exercises and movements incorporate these concepts.
Technique vs. Movement
An important aspect of this type of training is
techniques are not learned by rote memorization, but through an in-depth study
of an individual’s natural body movements and reactions. The key is to understand one’s core
reactions and the body’s abilities and build a framework to achieve “freedom of
movement”.Systema shows
techniques become a side effect of proper movement.Since the real world presents an infinite number of
different threat situations, the ultimate goal is to be flexible, aware, and
relaxed enough to work properly within any given context.
